Ramone is one of the recording industry’s most respected, creative,
and prolific music producers. With 33 Grammy nominations, 14 Grammy
Awards (including a Technical Grammyfor his lifetime of innovative
contributions to the recording industry), an Emmy, and numerous
honors and accolades, Ramone’s musical acumen and his use of audio
technology are unmatched among his peers.
Ramone pioneered many technological developments in
the music industry. The first CD ever pressed, Billy Joel’s 52nd
Street, was a Phil Ramone production as was the first pop DVD
release,
Dave
Grusin Presents West Side Story.
His use of a fiber optics system (EDNet) to record tracks in “real
time” from different locations for Frank Sinatra’s
Duets I
& II
was a
groundbreaking achievement. In 2005, Ramone was a recipient of the
first Grammy given for Best Surround Sound Album,
Ray
Charles Genius Loves Company.
Long recognized for the diversity of his work, Ramone has
collaborated and/or recorded with dozens of top artists, including
Burt Bacharach, Bono, Natalie Cole, Gloria Estefan, BB King,
Madonna, Paul McCartney, Luciano Pavarotti, Paul Simon, Frank
Sinatra, Phoebe Snow, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen,
Gladys Knight, Queen Latifah, Ruben Studdard, kd Lang, Keith Urban,
Wynonna, and the Dixie Chicks, to name just a few.
Ramone’s talents extend far beyond the recording
studio. From feature films to Broadway shows to television specials
to mega concert events, Phil Ramone is a unique force in the world
of entertainment. A sampling of his many productions include
A Star
is Born,
Flashdance, Ghostbusters, Midnight Cowboy,
Passion,
Songwriters Hall of Fame Awards, VH1/BBC Queens Jubilee Party at the
Palace,
and
The
Muppets at Walt Disney World.
The recipient of honorary doctorate degrees from Berklee College of
Music, Skidmore College, and Five Towns College, Ramone is the
chairman emeritus of the National Academy of Recording Arts and
Sciences (NARAS)’s board of trustees and a former trustee of the
MusiCares Foundation. He is a trustee of the National Academy of
Popular Music, and a founding member of META (The Music &
Engineering Technology Alliance).
